L.A. Witch, namely Sade Sanchez (guitar/vocals), Irita Pai (bass) and Ellie English (drums), have stood for a rather special mix of garage rock, proto-punk, Americana noir and reverb-soaked coolness since their formation in 2011. On their latest, third album "DOGGOD", they expand their sound spectrum to include post-punk and European-style goth rock without losing their characteristic dark mood. Thematically, "DOGGOD" explores profound questions about love, devotion and self-sacrifice. The album title itself - a palindrome of "DOG" and "GOD" - reflects the duality of unconditional love and divine worship. Singer Sade Sanchez describes this central motif as a kind of spiritual loyalty reminiscent of the faithful devotion of a dog - a powerful metaphor for love, devotion and also submission. Her influences include Black Sabbath, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and not least the groundbreaking L.A. bands X and The Gun Club.
