Lal Karaalioğlu: Piano
(Beethovenfest Talents)
Emilie Mayer: Piano Sonata
Ludwig van Beethoven: Fantasy op. 77
Clara Schumann: Variations on a theme by Robert Schumann
Robert Schumann: Eight Fantasy Pieces op. 12
Critics are predicting a great future for the young pianist Lal Karaalioğlu from Istanbul. She demonstrates a keen sense for cleverly designed programs: Emilie Mayer, celebrated in her lifetime as the "female Beethoven", and Clara Schumann are juxtaposed with their male counterparts Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann. All works are united by a touch of dreamy fantasy. Mayer's piano sonata, multi-faceted and imaginative, is juxtaposed with Beethoven's unusually disjointed fantasy movement. The interweaving of emotion and artistry is impressively reflected in the work of Clara and Robert Schumann. Clara created a musical monument to her husband with variations on one of his themes, while Robert immortalized the poetic fusion of life and art in romantic character pieces. His fantasy pieces, inspired by E. T. A. Hoffmann, seem to tell of a restless, dreamy night.
