Claudi Lanteri presents her novel "The Island and Time"!

"The Island and Time" (Folio Verlag; translation: Verena von Koskul) by Sicilian Claudia Lanteri was a literary sensation in Italy last year. Highly praised and acclaimed by critics, the young author is celebrated as the promising new young voice of Italy.

On a tiny island, somewhere between Sicily and Tunis: the rocks are burnt out by the sun and salty air, the earth is covered in thistles and broom. The boy Nonò sees everything and can read the signs of the sea. Then a couple is stranded on the island, the woman already dead. The survivor tells of a disaster, of a family buried in the sea. Nonò immediately distrusts the survivor's report and plunges into the search for the truth, for the wreck in the black depths. He will talk about it for years, but does he remember correctly? What does the island, the time, the loneliness do to the mind? What really happened?

In idiosyncratic language, strongly influenced by the sea and barren nature, the novel becomes a puzzle about memory, time and truth, "and sometimes what happened is not so different from what didn't happen." Profoundly philosophical, finely observed and extremely exciting. "A work of remarkable maturity - stylistically, compositionally, linguistically and pictorially", judges "La Lettura".

Claudia Lanteri was infected with a passion for stories as a child. After years in London, she now works as a bookseller and journalist in Palermo.
