Dying, getting up, living on - how do you deal with your own mortality? In the face of wars, illness and the climate crisis, this question is becoming threateningly close. Who must die, who may live? In Franz Schubert's unfinished cantata Lazarus (1820), a dying man is about to return to life. However, the work breaks off before the resurrection. Barrabas, a convicted murderer, is given a new life in Richard Frances' monodrama The Blind (2013), but he despairs. Director Martina Veh and composer Alexander Strauch combine the fragments and ask about guilt, redemption and justice in a world torn apart.
