Lebenslinien – Birgitt Lübkemann

In the organizer's words:

Birgitt Lübkemann lives and works on La Digue (Seychelles) and in Wennigsen near Hanover. Her works are exhibited and available internationally. At the end of 2024, almost 200 of her works were shown in the National Gallery of the Seychelles. By participating in international workshops as well as virtual and analog artist talks (including Art2Life Academy), she is constantly inspired and expands her techniques through creative exchange.

After years of experimenting with watercolor, airbrush and acrylic, Birgitt Lübkemann discovered her passion for pure, thinly applied oil paint in 1996. Inspired by the tropical light, vibrant colors and organic shapes of the Seychelles, she applied unmixed pigments to the canvas layer by layer with a soft brush.

A turning point came in 2022: during a period of illness of her partner, she opened up her artistic process and experimented on wooden panels - "windows to the joy of life". Her working method became more open, more spontaneous and she left more room for chance. Today she uses materials such as pastel chalk, ink, granite dust, marble powder, coconut oil and coffee in addition to acrylic and oil paint. Tools such as stones, shells, driftwood or stencils open up new ways of creating.

Birgitt Lübkemann's works are created intuitively, growing layer by layer. Drying times create space for a change of perspective. In the process, she discovers recurring structures and net-like lines of light reminiscent of reflections under water.

The exhibition is free of charge and will be officially opened on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at 3 pm.
