Lehmanns Brothers

The Lehmanns Brothers were not inspired by a money-destroying New York bank, but by a garage on Avenue Lehmann in Angoulême in south-western France. Influenced by funk gods such as Prince and D'Angelo, music students founded a band here in 2012 to revive the famous jazz-funk of the 70s and underpin it with hip-hop, house and nu-soul sounds. An infernal rhythm section, fiery brass, funky guitars and the incredible singer Julien Angelade produce a unique, grooving sound that hints at influences from James Brown, Jamiroquai, The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest. Their new album "Playground" (2024) also breathes funk - dreamy and urban, floating and percussive. In their early years, the Lehmanns Brothers initially wowed audiences as the support band for Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley and the Wu-Tang Clan; today they give concerts all over Europe and have played at jazzahead, the Leverkusen Jazz Days and the Montreux Jazz Festival. We could hardly imagine anyone better for the opening concert of asphalt 2025 than these stage beasts!
