More than 30 years after her death, the influence of writer and activist Audre Lorde on the African-American, feminist and queer movements is still extraordinarily alive. In her film portrait, Dagmar Schultz looks back on Lorde's Berlin years from 1984 to 1992, during which she helped Afro-German women to gain more self-confidence and commented on the social changes in the city and the country, which were characterized by the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification, but also by xenophobic pogroms.
For the first time, personal video and audio recordings by Dagmar Schultz provide an in-depth look into the life of the private Audre Lorde, but also allow fellow campaigners, students and friends to have their say. Lorde described her time in Berlin as one of the most important in her life.
