Düsseldorf 1953:

Zuria, a 26-year-old Jewish woman, lives in London and is engaged to a fashion house owner when a letter turns her life upside down: Her sister Jalda, who was thought to be dead, is alive. Despite her fears, Zuria returns to her old home in Düsseldorf to bring Jalda to London. But Jalda has made a life for herself as a model in the land of the perpetrators and dreams of a career as a model. Zuria longs to become a fashion photographer. When she meets her childhood sweetheart Kurt, she is faced with the choice between security and prosperity in London and a new start with the chance to live her true dreams.
