His essays show how poverty shapes everyday life, how it makes people ill and lonely - and how it is linked to the wealth of the upper classes. David, born in Hamburg-Altona in 1988, worked in various precarious jobs before entering journalism at the age of 30. His book is an attempt to give a voice to stories from below and to make the mechanisms of social inequality visible.
