The true story of a dance that touches the world The first joint book by Nicole Nau & Luis Pereyra published by PalmArtPress Verlag Berlin.

The history of Tango Argentino begins around 150 years ago and is about oppressed peoples. It was the indigenous people of Argentina, the black slaves, the gauchos and Creoles who invented the tango, who breathed longing, confidence and the will to live into it. Many have now been forgotten in the history books, but in music and dance, in words and culture, in gesture and movement, they continue to resonate. Dancing in earth and sand was the first form, where the figure of a reclining 8 was born.
Jorge Luis Borges witnessed these people at the time and was fascinated by their courage. This book is about unraveling these rural roots, tracing them and reuniting them into what Tango Argentino once was.
Hardly any other dance expresses more stubbornness than this Tango Argentino. And hardly any other dance weaves more myths around its origins. It's time to uncover its true origins. Luis Pereyra, himself the grandson of an Indian woman, has a deep desire to give his people a voice.

20 years ago, the first joint tango night: "El Sonido de mi Tierra" with FUTURO SI took place in the sold-out Düsseldorf Tonhalle. Together with her Argentinian partner Luis Pereyra, Düsseldorf-born Nicole Nau presented an enchanting dance event for the benefit of FUTURO SI's Latin American children's projects. And a series of further charity events with her large company VIDA were to follow, the last one in 2019 to mark FUTURO SI's 25th anniversary.

We are delighted that the two of them will be reading from their book and telling stories in our new premises at Corneliusstr. 75 on July 19, 2025.
