Lesung, Musik & DJ live in der taz Kantine: Lost in Music

LOST IN MUSIC is an evening of stories and pop music. Authors, musicians, presenters and actors read aloud, including live music and a DJ set. Performers include Jenni Zylka, Eric Wrede and Brezel Göring.

LOST IN MUSIC, based on the book by Giles Smith, sets the tone: this evening is all about the music! After LOST IN MUSIC has already caused a sensation in Munich and Hamburg, Berlin is now finally on the program.

The talk show and live music format by and with Markus Naegele aka Don Marco presents (auto)biographical texts, articles, letters and novel excerpts from the world of pop music. Read aloud by authors, musicians, presenters and actors.

In addition, there will be live music on the fly, focusing on the fine art of cover versions. Performed by local acts. Afterwards, DJs play their favorite records. It's time to party!

Readings:

🐾 In addition to her life as a musician, Julie Miess has an academic interest in monsters and books as a Dr. phil. She played bass in the band Britta from the 1990s, founded Half Girl and appeared in musicals by Christiane Rösinger. She has been part of the musical duo Motörcat since 2022.

🐾 Jenni Zylka writes cultural texts for publications including taz, Tagesspiegel, Spiegel Online, Freitag and Rolling Stone and works for Deutschlandradio, RadioEins, WDR and many more. She is also a film curator (including for the Berlinale), presenter and has written two books. She is a member of the film critics' association Fipresci, a member of the Grimme Prize jury and works for the FSF.

🐾 Eric Wrede first made a name for himself in Berlin as a DJ and eventually became music manager at "Motor Music". After a few years, he decided to make a hard cut and founded "lebensnah Bestattungen" in 2014. To accompany his podcast "The End - the podcast of life and death", he published the book "The End - Das Buch vom Tod" in 2018, followed by the book "Auf Leben und Tod" in 2024.

Live music:

🐾 Bird Control describe their sound as Moody Psychedelic Garage Punk or The Future Sound of Trash. The four musicians in the band earned their spurs in the nineties and noughties with Mucus 2, Monochords, AIR 6 and Jeans Team, among others, and are now returning with a vengeance to the stages of the beleaguered republic.

Jesper Munk'scareer has been characterized by highs and lows, from bluesy supernova to underrated soulbro and from teenage poster boy to seasoned singer/songwriter. In 2024, his new album "Champaigne Shoes" was released by Glitterhouse - a lo-fi production between jazz, new wave, chanson, blues and soul.

🐾 Alongside Francoise Cactus, Brezel Göring was one half of Stereo Total for decades, always creatively on the move between garage, trash, disco and chanson. Considered the "grand dame of Berlin chanson or chanson kaputt, the sparkling punk princess of Kreuzberg, who bounces off every musical expectation like a pinball with glamor and anarchistic humor".

🐾 Martin Lippert has been "lost in music" for over 20 years - for Rolling Stone, Intro, Musikexpress, Melt and thePreis für Popkultur, among others. As a "disco volante", he plays whatever grooves. Soul, disco, new wave synth-pop and Italo pop. On May 30, he will bring his vinyl-only series '24 | 7' to the Berlin premiere of LOST IN MUSIC.

Moderation:

🐾 Don Marco has been playing in various underground bands such as Maximo Park, Algiers, Frightened Rabbit and Drug Stop since the 90s. He earned his living under the name Markus Naegele as publishing director at "Heyne Hardcore". Most recently he was head of the program at btb Verlag.
