Literature café: Faruk Šehić - reading, talk and Sevdah music

organized by Cultus BH e.V. in cooperation with BalkaNet e.V. as part of the festival "Šta ima!? - Ništa."

The evening will focus on a reading by Bosnian author Faruk Šehić, winner of the Meša Selimović Prize and the European Union Prize for Literature, who is one of the most important literary voices in the former Yugoslavia. Šehić will give us an insight into his novel "From the Una", in which he tells us in poetic language about life before, during and after the war - about his childhood in Yugoslavia, about the front and traumas, but also about trying to live on as a survivor.

The reading will be accompanied by the artist Nadina Memagić, who will read excerpts from the novel in German, and the musician Asmir Šabić, who will add musical depth to the evening with a contemporary Sevdah performance.

In the subsequent discussion with the author, Denijen Pauljević (author, moderator and cultural mediator) reflects on literature as memory, resistance and survival strategy.

An evening that makes the unspeakable audible in an empathetic way - about what tore Europe apart in the 1990s and what continues to have an impact today.
