A novel about a flat-sharing community in which four people of different ages live together for different reasons and come to realize that friends are sometimes better than family: Friends are sometimes the better family.
After separating from her partner, Constanze moves into a shared flat with Jörg, Anke and Murat. What was initially intended as a temporary solution turns out to be increasingly stable. There is Jörg, who owns the apartment and is planning a big trip; Anke, who as a middle-aged actress is hardly ever booked and is suddenly no longer the only woman in the flat share; and Murat, who simply doesn't want to worry and whose zest for life has a rousing and sometimes enervating effect on the others. As a new arrival, Constanze causes a major shift in the previous tectonics. All four have their own dreams and aspirations and at some point have to face the question of whether they are a purely functional flat share or a family of choice.
In this masterfully composed, lively and humorous novel, four very different people have their say, each having to readjust their life plans in their own way.
