Migration - a topic that has long been polarizing and continues to be hotly debated even after the recent parliamentary election campaign.

From the idea of an unconditional immigration society to serious concerns about the integration capacities of communities and radical positions that call fundamental rights into question: The public debate continues to be heated. How can a legal perspective counter the increasing polarization?

On April 9, the lawyer and expert on migration law, Prof. Dr. Daniel Thym from the University of Konstanz, will be a guest at the "Let's Talk About Law" series of talks organized by the Stiftung Forum Recht. In his current book "Migration steuern. A guide for the here and now." (C.H.Beck, 2025), Thym searches for legal policy answers to current challenges. In the Leipzig talk "Recht an Grenzen. Migration viewed from a legal perspective", Marie-Elisabeth Miersch, research associate at the foundation, discusses fundamental questions of migration law with him: How are asylum and migration already regulated in Germany and the European Union? What scope does politics have for stricter regulations - and what not? And what rights do asylum seekers and migrants have?

The foundation invites the audience to participate in the discussion with questions and to enter into a direct exchange with the discussion guest.
