When Colm returns with his wife Bonnie to his father's home village, an island off West Cork, Ireland, for the first time in many years, everything seems different at first: his mother Beiv, a famous visual artist who lives in seclusion on the island, has torn down half the house and decided to install only glass walls in order to deliberately put herself on display. People in the village talk anyway. Since the mysterious death of her husband ten years ago at sea, she has been accused of murder and is constantly under surveillance. And her son's visit also holds a few surprises for Beiv. Colm has concealed his marriage to art student Bonnie from her and seems to have no interest in a harmonious reunion. Old wounds are quickly opened. The sudden appearance of his old childhood friend Donal causes the situation to escalate. The past pulls everyone into a maelstrom of old and new hurts, recriminations and unrequited love.
