»Lieder nach Gedichten von Else Lasker-Schüler«

In the organizer's words:

3rd Klangbilder concert with songs by Paul Hindemith, Friedrich Hollaender, Lily Reiff-Sertorius and Manfred Trojahn, among others

Else Lasker-Schüler is considered a multi-talented artist. She not only wrote poems, dramas and prose, but also performed them in eccentric readings accompanied by music.

In her life, she blurred the boundary between art and reality and stylized herself into artistic figures such as the "Prince of Thebes". She gave up her bourgeois marriage for an unsettled life in Berlin's bohemian scene, sometimes on the streets and in homeless shelters. She had to flee from National Socialism because of her Jewish origins and was finally stranded in Jerusalem, where she died before the end of the Second World War. Lasker-Schüler's poetic work in particular inspired numerous composers during her lifetime with its pictorial and enigmatic language, in which she literarily exaggerated her life.

The 3rd Klangbilderkonzert covers a wide range of poetry settings from Lasker-Schüler's immediate artistic environment to contemporary compositions and combines these with readings from her prose work, as the author already practiced during her lifetime.
