Liminal Fields: Digital transgression between art and technology

The "Liminal Fields" exhibition invites visitors into intermediate spaces where digital and physical realities become blurred, encompassing virtual worlds, interactive installations and media art works that take us out of our usual space and state and into something in between. It is about exploring places where firmly defined boundaries do not exist and where transformation and ambiguity take center stage.

The exhibition presents current design and media art projects by students of communication design at HTW Berlin. The focus is on innovative works that combine digital technologies, interactive installations and artistic research.

The projects on display explore the interfaces between humans and technology: brain-computer interfaces, spatial video installations, data-based artworks and transmedia experiments make up the spectrum. Central themes are artificial intelligence, augmented realities, data visualization and new narrative forms.

The thematic arc of the exhibition ranges from research into neural networks to the development of immersive narrative spaces. The Cinecube by Gordon Räck, for example, revolutionizes traditional film narratives through multidimensional projections, while other projects translate complex scientific concepts into sensory experiences.

The installation "Made in Germany", an alumni project from 2018, critically questions social mechanisms and Dagmar Schürrer's multimedia project poetically reflects on the intertwining of consciousness, the environment and technology.

Curated by lecturers such as Prof. Andreas Ingerl, Prof. Pablo Dornhege and Prof. Alexander Müller-Rakow, the exhibition shows works that combine scientific precision with artistic imagination. The exhibits range from immersive multimedia installations to critical social reflections.

Media art as a laboratory of transgression - this is how the concept of "Liminal Fields" can be summarized: An exploration of the spaces in between, in which the relationship between technology, art and society are renegotiated. The exhibition invites visitors to leave familiar perspectives behind and immerse themselves in worlds between reality and the future.
