For the first time, you can read T.C. Boyle in German earlier than in English! The German edition of his major new novel "No Way Home" (translation: Dirk van Gunsteren) will be published months earlier than the English edition. An ideal opportunity to talk to the renowned literary translator Dirk van Gunsteren about his work, who has been translating the world star's works into German for decades.
"No Way Home" tells the story of two men's obsessive love for a woman who cannot decide between them: Terry, a doctor from Los Angeles, moves into her house in Boulder City in the Nevada desert after the death of his mother. He actually wanted to sell it, had he not met Bethany in a bar, who moves in with him - against his will. The reclusive Terry can't resist her. But there's also her jealous ex-boyfriend Jesse, who keeps turning up and warning him: "She's poison". The two men clash in the middle of the desert.

T. Coraghessan Boyle, born in Peekskill, N.Y., in 1948, is the author of numerous novels and short stories that have been translated into many languages. Until 2012, he taught creative writing at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Hanser recently published "Sind wir nicht Menschen" (Stories, 2020), "Sprich mit mir" (Novel, 2021), "Blue Skies" (Novel, 2023) and "I Walk Between the Raindrops" (Stories, 2024).

Dirk van Gunsteren, born in 1953, studied American Studies. He was awarded the Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt Prize in 2007 and the City of Munich Translation Prize in 2018. He has translated T.C. Boyle, Jonathan Safran Foer, Patricia Highsmith, John Irving, Philip Roth and Richard Stark, among others.
