Literaturklub: Chatanga mit Thomas Podhostnik und Sebastian Schmidt

In the organizer's words:

The three-part epistolary novel by Thomas Podhostnik (Leipzig) ends with "Chatanga", in which we follow Sergei on his journey from inequality of opportunity to freedom. Sebastian Schmidt's texts also deal with the unequal distribution of wealth and free time; he was ill in February and is now traveling from Würzburg to make up for it.

The authors:

Thomas Podhostnik was born in Radolfzell on Lake Constance in 1972 as the son of Yugoslavian guest workers. He completed an apprenticeship as a forwarding agent, then trained as an assistant director at the Teatro Nacional de Cuba. He studied at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig.

Podhostnik writes prose and experimental prose, which has been published in individual titles, anthologies and literary magazines. He lives in Leipzig. His most recent publication with parasitenpresse is the novel trilogy Dear Mr. Saunders (parasitenpresse 2024/25), and he also translated (as part of a team) the poems of Slovenian poet Ana Pepelnik.

Sebastian Schmidt was born in 1983 and grew up near Heidelberg. The author is an active member of the group Other Writers Need to Concentrate, which deals with the subject of care work and writing in the literary world. His poems have been nominated for the Dresden Poetry Prize and the Merano Poetry Prize, among others. In 2024, he was awarded the Media Prize of the Italian Broadcasting Corporation (RAI). His texts have been translated into Czech, French and English. abtauchen, egal is his second volume of poetry published by parasitenpresse, previously so stelle ich mir den gesang von erst kürzlich mutierten finken vor. Sebastian Schmidt lives in Würzburg.
