In the organizer's words:
With its sixth album in its tenth year, THE BLACK ELEPHANT BAND, the solo project of Nuremberg songwriter and author Jan Bratenstein (Municipal Culture Prize in 2020), is trying to escape the post-pandemic depression. Touring was out of the question in the frustrating winter of 2021 - the band, which is actually a solo act with over 1,000 concerts under its belt, is experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms. All the more valuable: a GEMA grant that makes a recording session possible under the most adverse financial and emotional conditions. The session becomes a two-week therapy session.
Traditionally, selected colleagues (best friends) are brought in, including:
- DOMI BACK on production and countless instruments - a collaboration that has already produced the two previous albums (Pop Smears; A Masterpiece of Indecision)
- BOMMY DUCK had to record ALL drums and percussion very spontaneously due to a corona case
- JOHN STEAM JR, BEN RUSHIAN and MÄKKELÄ provide the string instrumental backing from the legendary FOLK'S WORST NIGHTMARE collective
- INA SPANG (Muddy What?) and JULIA FISCHER enhance with first-class mandolin and piano respectively
Mostly recorded in a spare room in a shared flat with a tree bed (i.e. a bunk bed with branches), THE BLACK ELEPHANT BAND once again surfs through the whole antifolk/folkpunk/lo-fi blues/Americana ocean and growls its usual silly, satirical, but also unusually darkly reflective lyrics, which Dead Moon's Fred Cole has already explicitly ennobled.
FIXING GREAT MISTAKES WITH DUCT TAPE will be released on vinyl at the end of the year (pressing plant congestion permitting), BUT ALSO on a weekly basis on Bandcamp!
"Weird antifolk with beard, guitar and harmonica. To fall in love with!"
"Wonderfully irreverent, simply grandiose. The Black Elephant Band is something like the Ramones of folk!"
"Dorky, loveable and highly entertaining lo-fi gems!"
