On the International Day against Violence against Women, we cordially invite you to a special event: a live podcast with Kleiderei Radio and our partners from India and Indonesia. Be there and join the discussion!

Moderators Amelie Liebst and FEMNET board member Anna Burst talk to Kaveri Maletira Thimmaiya and Antony Raju V. from Cividep in India and Danardianingtyas Nitya S. and Didit Saleh from TURC about the reality of gender-based violence in the textile industry and the health risks faced by women textile workers. Together, they shed light on how working conditions can be improved and gender-based violence combated.

Why this is important:
Women make up a large part of the workforce in the global textile industry. However, many of them are threatened by violence and exploitation on a daily basis. In the garment and footwear industry in particular, gender-based violence is a major risk - yet it is often ignored in discussions about health and safety. Yet it has a significant impact on women's physical and mental health.

In addition, unrealistically high production targets force many female workers to avoid breaks and spend long hours working in stressful positions. Malnutrition, dehydration and exposure to hazardous substances exacerbate the health risks.

The multi-stakeholder project by Cividep in India, the Trade Union Rights Center (TURC) in Indonesia, the SÜDWIND Institute and FEMNET starts right here: It identifies gender-specific risks and develops solutions to combat them.

In addition to exciting discussions, we will present our projects and show you how civil society engagement can bring about change. Kleiderei Köln will also provide inspiration for more sustainable fashion consumption.
