Live Reportage: Bis ans Ende der Welt (Claudia & Jürgen Kirchberger)

In the organizer's words:

Just a couple, Claudia and Jürgen set off on their crazy life of travel. In a camper van along the American coast, they discover their love of the sea and change tack: After a week of sailing lessons in the Los Angeles harbor basin and a flash marriage in Las Vegas, they head out into the ocean to discover the world by sail.

A turbulent start turns into a life under sail. And the two go all out: they are not tempted by the usual vacation destinations or the easy sailing routes of this world. They fall in love with the cold regions of the world and spend two years on board in the Arctic. Together they experience an icy winter frozen in Greenland, followed by the "Mount Everest of sailors": the Northwest Passage. They encounter polar bears and walruses and sail among humpback whales in Alaska.

Claudia and Jürgen sail on into the tropics across the Pacific and through the South Seas. Where they experience hospitality among palm trees and their thirst for adventure leads them on dives under their floating home.

After a year in New Zealand, they leave the route of the classic circumnavigators once again and sail the toughest ocean passage that a single sea in this world has to offer: in the realm of storms through the Roaring Forties to South America.

Arriving in Chile, they experience a magical winter in the canals of Patagonia and venture on a special adventure the following summer: as the second Austrian yacht (or,possibly ,the first Austrian couple) , they leave Cape Horn in their wake and sail across the dangerous Drake Passage to experience Antarctica for three months.

Trans-Atlantic lengthwise, they return to Europe and come full circle. Claudia and Jürgen were the first Austrians to sail around the American continent.

With honesty and passion, Claudia and Jürgen tell the story of how two landlubbers became daring ocean sailors. How they never let seasickness, mental and physical stress to their own limits, storms or fear stop them. How the desire for a self-determined life combined with curiosity about the beauty of this earth pushes the two of them further and further.
