Towards the end of the 19th century, Louise Violet is ordered to leave Paris, go to the countryside and open a new school there. The political will of the time: everyone should be able to read and write - even the families of the poor rural population. Once there, Louise quickly comes into conflict with reality. Because the bitter truth is: the harvest cannot be done without the children and without children there is no school. But Louise refuses to give up. With the mayor Joseph at her side, some parents finally agree to let their children go to school. However, when Louise's past catches up with her, the whole project threatens to fail again...

A French drama set against a historical backdrop about a strong woman with educational ideals who has to assert herself in the midst of a harsh world and come to terms with her past.
