Three eras, two generations, one family drama. In the Summer of Love 1967, the air burns with anticipation - something is going to happen, the world is going to change and Kenneth and Sandra want to be part of it! But what will become of their expectations and dreams over the years? A failed marriage and 30 years later, love has turned to selfishness and the spirit of optimism to boredom. And their half-grown teenage children are stuck in their own hell of excessive demands and emotional neglect. Will they reshape the world with a new utopia, as their parents did back then, or have they long since fallen under the wheels of time? A play about changing attitudes to life and the constant that the private sphere is also always political.
Mike Bartlett manages to short-circuit the personal entanglements of his characters with current social and political developments and incorporate them into an entertaining plot. He takes a satirical look at two generations and hides a "state of the nation" piece in his family story.
