Ouch! Theories by men about "the nature of women" have shaped Western art and intellectual history for centuries and have reliably contributed to maintaining patriarchy, the binary gender order and other nonsense as systems of power. The music theater combo glanz&krawall is therefore launching a bitter revenge: the protagonist from Alban Berg's opera fragment and Frank Wedekind's dramas "Erdgeist" and "Pandora's Box" Lulu - presented as a dangerous snake in the opening monologue by the animal tamer - now occupies the ring and presents her grotesque, anti-patriarchal circus show. This is where twelve-tone music meets electro-punk, popcorn meets high culture, opera meets circus.
"Lulu: Revanche im Zirkuszelt" revises the male fantasies inscribed in the originals, turns the bottom up and exposes the socio-critical aspect of Wedekind's Lulu dramas - the rigid and violent behavior of the guys and pouts.
"Lulu: Revanche im Zirkuszelt" is the third collaboration between glanz&krawall and the Schaubühne Lindenfels after "Catch3000" and "Trinkerpark". The play premiered in September 2024 on Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin - at the local Cabuwazi circus.
"Lulu: Revanche im Zirkuszelt" is a wild mix of genres and a beautiful statement against gender stereotypes that are unfortunately increasingly being taken out of the moth box." (taz)
"glanz&krawall are fearless border crossers between genres and narrative forms, the name says it all." (Berliner Morgenpost)
