Māori river guardian Ned Tapa takes the filmmakers, international water representatives and activists on a canoe trip on the Whanganui River in Aotearoa, New Zealand. The 320-kilometre-long river is the first in the world to be recognized as a legal entity. For over 150 years, the Māori have been passionately fighting to protect their sacred lifeline. As they journey through the picturesque river landscape, the group shares stories of resilience, destruction and healing. The film opens up a view of a different understanding of nature - away from a purely instrumentalized view of nature. Respectfully, director Petr Lom lets the travelers themselves have their say and talk about the interconnectedness of all life and the global movement for the rights of nature.
"A meditative and at the same time very communicative reflection on life itself, by and on the river." (filmdienst)
