The co-production by Theater Waidspeicher and Theater Erfurt is dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi's musical portrait of the up-and-comer and man of power Macbeth and combines the material with texts from Shakespeare's dramatic original. Macbeth becomes intoxicated with power and brutality and rises from soldier to King of Scotland. But from the very beginning he is surrounded by visions and fictions, magical women and the dead speak to him and his end is as ghostly as his rise. As a composer who took a keen interest in the political upheavals of his time, Giuseppe Verdi endowed the protagonist of Shakespeare's tragedy with the finest nuances of character between forlornness and megalomania. Christian Georg Fuchs' production takes a close look at this musical portrait of a man of power. Singer Máté Sólyom-Nagy embodies the tragic king and the players of Theater Waidspeicher surround him with his environment of ghosts, humans and revenants, oscillating between delusion and vision.
