Single mother Donna (Meryl Streep) runs a small hotel on an idyllic Greek island. Her now 20-year-old daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is to be married and is preparing for her wedding. Donna has also invited her two best friends Rosie (Julie Walters) and Tanya (Christine Baranski), who used to play in a band with her. Meanwhile, Sophie hatches a secret plan to find her unknown father.
