Sophie wants her father to walk her down the aisle at her wedding on a Greek island. But because she knows him as little as her mother Donna, she invites the three most likely candidates. Donna is suddenly confronted with the magic, but also the wounds of her past, while the most painful task of releasing Sophie into a self-determined future still lies ahead.

The best argument for this musical adaptation is the mostly convincing interpretation of ABBA hits by Meryl Streep and the entire cast. The enthusiasm and melancholy of the songs are preserved under the direction of Phyllida Lloyd, who already made "Mamma Mia!" a success on Broadway. Supported by Greek island idyll and situation comedy, the film is recommended as a vacation alternative with a good mood guarantee.
