Vegetable oils and fats in cooking and cosmetics:

Oils and fats are extracted from a variety of plants and can be used both externally and internally. In addition to olives and almonds, these include cocoa, avocado, argan, coconut, hemp and sunflower. Ehrentraud Bayer and Margith Schmidt-Geier will introduce the plants in question, present oils made from them and offer edible and cosmetic samples.

Mrs. Margith Schmidt-Geier studied at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich and is a retired secondary school teacher for biology and chemistry. She has a special interest in culinary delights and knows numerous recipes not only for the kitchen, but also for cosmetics, which she has tried out herself. Ms. Schmidt-Geier has also been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Society of Friends of the Munich Botanical Garden for several years.

Dr. Ehrentraud Bayer studied at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich and completed her doctorate and habilitation in Systematic Botany. She initially worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Systematic Botany at LMU and from 1993 until her retirement as a scientist at the Munich-Nymphenburg Botanical Garden. Dr. Bayer has been Chairwoman of the Society of Friends of the Munich Botanical Garden since the end of 2021.
