Together with her sister Susan Amini, Maren will read from her book "Ahmadjan and the Hoopoe", which is about their father and his career as an artist and as an immigrant in Germany:
In 1972, young Ahmadjan comes to Germany from Afghanistan to become an artist. What follows is a colorful odyssey; an eventful life between art and war, home and new beginnings, flight and responsibility, always in search of happiness.
Ahmadjan's daughter Maren Amini tells his impressive biography in her graphic novel based on the old Persian legend of the "Conference of the Birds" by Fariduddin Attar. In it, she also shows the confrontation with her own identity and the history of Afghanistan, sensitively, humorously and with a light touch.
Maren Amini's eagerly awaited debut "Ahmadjan and the Hoopoe" was awarded the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung Comic Book Prize in 2023.
