Paris, September 1977: Maria Callas has withdrawn from the public eye for years. The legendary opera diva no longer sings and lives in seclusion in her huge apartment, behind heavy curtains, in a world full of memories. Only her faithful valet Ferruccio and the cook Bruna are close to her, and both are increasingly worried about the health of their lady of the house. When the TV reporter Mandrax appears, Maria Callas blossoms. The interviews with the young man take Maria back to better, great, legendary times. She decides to return to the stage one last time.

MARIA now tells the story of the diva through her own eyes for the first time, as she relives her turbulent, beautiful and tragic life shortly before her death in Paris in 1979.
