"Small films" with a big impact

At irregular intervals, we show hand-picked films that we consider to have a high viewing value, but which do not find their way into the regular program for various reasons. Because we don't have enough space, for example, or because the films undeservedly don't have the greatest impact.

As a rule, the Schauwert films are only shown on isolated dates spread over 2-3 weeks. A little speed and spontaneity are therefore required - but it's worth it.

"Mariana Trench"

Paula (Luna Wedler) goes through a deep period of mourning after her little brother Tim drowns in the sea in Trieste. Plagued by feelings of guilt, her will to live seems extinguished. When she meets the old curmudgeon Helmut (Edgar Selge), who wants to take his ex-wife's urn to Italy, she finally sees a glimmer of hope again: to go to Trieste, to the beach where her brother died. Only there will she finally be able to feel close to him again. During the adventurous journey, an unexpected friendship develops with Helmut - and a new zest for life awakens.

In her remarkable feature film debut, Byrne brings together the well-known German character actor Edgar Selge (POLL) and the Swiss shooting star Luna Wedler (JE SUIS KARL) as an unequal and heart-warming duo in front of the camera.
