Marty Willson-Piper (ex The Church)

Marty Willson-Piper is an English guitarist, singer and songwriter, best known as a longtime member of the Australian psychedelic band The Church (1980-2013). In a career spanning over 45 years, he has been involved in a variety of musical projects including his solo work, collaborations with All About Eve, Brix Smith (The Fall) , Cinerama /David Gedge - Wedding Present) Tom Verlaine, The Saints as well as his own band Noctorum, Space Summit, Blueburst and many more.

He is a virtuoso guitarist and has continued to refine his own style. With his old band The Church, he had the worldwide hit "Under The Milky Way" in the 80s and is as well known in Australia as the groups Midnight Oil, Icehouse or the Go-Betweens.

With a mixture of psychedelic rock, folk and alternative influences, Willson-Piper's music remains very atmospheric and introspective. In addition to his music career, he is also an avid vinyl collector, music historian and passionate advocate of independent art making. The jack-of-all-trades currently lives in Porto.

This May, Willson-Piper will release Archaeological Dig - Volume 1, the first part of a planned trilogy of releases on which he has re-recorded over 30 songs from his extensive catalog.

Live in Hamburg, he will play material from his solo records alone, some Church songs and from his numerous projects from a repertoire of over 300 songs. Newly interpreted and lyrical instead of rocking. This is his only concert in Germany. We are excited and looking forward to an extraordinary evening with an exceptional musician, peppered with many anecdotes from his musical life.

SUPPORT : GRABBEL AND THE FINAL CUT are a phenomenon. 15 years after their break-up, the band from
Lüneburg was rediscovered by the hip New York indie label Captured Tracks, which released a 7-inch EP
with three old songs from 1991. Better late than never, and then everything happened very quickly:
Worldwide recognition, reunion, live concerts (including with Phillip Boa & The Voodooclub,
Close Lobsters, Bollock Brothers) and the first new songs since the 90s. The Musikexpress calls it
it an "inspiring hybrid between noise and shoegaze". The Hamburg Markthalle announces it
as "the most beautiful and only band reunion without a bland aftertaste". And ByteFM rightly remarks
rightly remarks: "The story of this band is something special!"
