The masterclass "Corporale"
"corporāle" (lat.) means: "everything that relates to or is specific to the body".
Corporale is the third act of Aristide Rontini's performance 'Fragments of Infinity'. It is inspired by Pier Paolo Pasolini's essay "Of the Fireflies" from his collection of texts "Freibeuterschriften". The organic and bioluminescent body of the firefly is a metaphor for the human ability to get in touch with one's own bodily perceptions instead of uncritically following predetermined models and codes.
In this masterclass, Aristide Rontini shares insights and practices that have shaped the creative process of his performance.
The language of fireflies consists of vibrations and resonances that form a natural network in which each person receives and transmits - without a center or guide. With their luminous signals, they constantly alternate between states of transmitting and receiving activity. In this network, each person is connected to the others and can decide whether to share vibrations, follow resonances, make contact or withdraw - depending on the situation.
Aristide Rontini's practices focus on breathing, listening, closeness, touch, posture, positioning and the use of simple movement principles such as following, offering and connecting.
This gives each participant the opportunity to consciously perceive their own body and shape their movements individually.
The exercises serve as tools to open up the personal archive of postures, relationship dynamics and movements. Together we examine what promotes or hinders the formation of a community in which bodies are no longer hierarchized. How can we build a sense of community while emphasizing differences and keeping them alive?
Through this process, a choreographic score will emerge that enables a more equitable, sustainable and accessible community.
If the group agrees, we will test this practice of fireflies in public spaces. What experiences will we have? How can our co-developed language become alive and resilient in public space?
The masterclass will be held in English, with peer-to-peer translation into German if required.
It is aimed at professional and semi-professional artists with and without disabilities from various fields of the performing arts: dancers, choreographers, performers, actors, musicians, directors, dramaturges as well as cultural professionals and interested parties.
