Mathias Ruppnig Quartet presents FOAM

The Austrian drummer and composer Mathias Ruppnig, who lives in Leipzig, introduces his Leipzig quartet and presents his current program "FOAM", among other things.

He will be joined by Werner Neumann (guitar), Johannes Bigge (piano and synthesizer) and Andris Meinig (double bass). This line-up will perform Ruppnig's latest works, selected compositions from his previous albums and one or two jazz standards. The acoustic jazz formation combines fresh sounds with Ruppnig's multi-faceted musical language and reflects his international experience in the jazz world, playing and working with renowned musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Doug Weiss, Jim Rotondi, Charles Altura, Ben van Gelder, Bill McHenry, China Moses, Annett Louisan and Justin Stanton (Snarky Puppy).

The music remains true to the typical Ruppnig style: driving grooves, harmonies that alternate between archaic sounds and modern concepts and exotic, meandering melody lines. The pieces leave plenty of room for improvisation and open interaction. The band's sound is complex and colourful, but always remains compact and recognizable. Off to new shores! What the drummer and composer brings to the stage is an incredibly refreshing and extremely multi-layered interpretation of contemporary jazz.
