Bernt Engelmann, born in Berlin in 1921, came to Düsseldorf at the age of 11. In 1944, he was arrested for his involvement in a resistance group against the Nazi state and interned in the Flossenbürg and Dachau concentration camps. After the end of the war, he worked for "Der Spiegel" and the NDR magazine "Panorama". From 1962, he appeared on the scene as an author of successful historical-political non-fiction titles and factual novels. In particular, his books exposing the National Socialist involvement of the German financial and economic aristocracy and the Starfighter scandal caused an enormous stir. The total print run of his fifty or so books is over fifteen million copies.
