Maximo Park - Kulturinsel Wöhrmühle

As pioneers of the last big wave of rock exports from the UK, Maxïmo Park defined the island zeitgeist sound after the turn of the millennium. With their captivating mixture of post-punk, new wave set pieces and always quite danceable rock, the band have manifested their reputation as a reliable party band over the years. Once founded in 2000 by guitarist Duncan Lloyd in Newcastle upon Tyne, it was the aforementioned flagship frontman Paul Smith who was the last to join the group and, with his eccentric style, pushed them into completely new show spheres. With over 300,000 copies sold, their debut album "A Certain Trigger" was more than just an initial success in 2005.

Six albums later and with two founding members gone - bassist Archis Tiku and keyboardist Lukas Wooller are no longer part of the line-up - the band, who incidentally named themselves after Miami's domino-playing mecca, Máximo Gómez Park, were even able to build on their old successes with their latest album release, "Nature Always Wins": Said album drew level with their highest UK chart placing to date, which the second album "Our Earthly Pleasures" had achieved in 2007. It's a safe bet that you'll also be able to hear a few songs from their latest release live, but their hits will certainly also be in the repertoire!
