The Peasants' War from 1524 to 1526 shaped the collective memory of the German-speaking world for generations. Thuringia was a central location and also the last place of activity of the radical reformer Thomas Müntzer. Exactly 500 years after his execution in Mühlhausen, the concert in Gotha's Margarethenkirche is dedicated to this anniversary. In its program, the MDR radio choir draws a musical arc from music of the Reformation period to works of later centuries that have carried on the ideas of that turbulent time, but also position themselves against violence and oppression in general.
