The insight into the magazine novels is the third event in the "Media History of Protest" series, which the German Museum of Books and Writing launched in spring 2025. The event is part of the program for the Long Night of the Sciences on 20 June 2025.

Under the title "Research on the German Heftroman", we will present results and insights from the cooperation between the German National Library and the Chair of Computer Philology at the University of Würzburg. Together we are opening up and researching this medium, which has been extremely popular for over 100 years, and shedding light on its astonishing diversity.

A selection of original magazine novels invites you to browse and provides a lively insight into the colorful world of crime novels, westerns, medical novels and more.

Our highlight: Have your photo taken directly on site and, with the help of artificial intelligence, be incorporated into a stylish magazine novel cover - whether as a gunslinger, mountain innkeeper or detective.

Leonard Konle is doing his doctorate at the Graduate School of the Humanities at the University of Würzburg. His dissertation deals with the computer-aided modeling of plot structures in genre literature. In addition to his doctoral thesis, he is involved as a research assistant in the project "Literary Change: German Poetry between Realism and Early Modernism and its Relationship to Literary, Cultural and Social Developments", which is part of the priority program "Computational Literary Studies".
