Whether podcast or documentary series - there are now a large number of true crime formats. The genre is fascinating and very successful. The real crime cases provide suspense and obviously good entertainment. But is this "marketing" unproblematic? Can the formats reflect reality at all? And how does "real" forensic medicine view true crime? In our dialog format, two researchers from different disciplines meet to discuss this topic: Prof. Dr. Stefanie Ritz is Director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Düsseldorf University Hospital. Prof. Dr. Heiner Fangerau is Director of the Institute for the History, Theory and Ethics of Medicine at Heinrich Heine University. On this evening, they will provide insights into their work, their view of the popular genre and shed light on where the mediatization of forensic medicine reaches its ethical and legal limits, particularly with regard to the depiction of the deceased.
