The election campaigns in the USA, Austria and Germany had a few things in common: claims without reference to the facts, a decontextualization that distorted the truth, manipulative narratives. This showed once again how thin the line is between the two abysses of deliberate deception and that of an indifferent bullshit culture. But how much of both can a society tolerate? How much truth does democracy need?
