Play based on the book of the same name by Saliya Kahawatte

At the age of 15, the German-Singhalese Saliya Kahawatteloses his sight almost completely. The doctors tell him that he will soon go completely blind. He is told to leave school and work in a workshop for the blind. But Saliya wants to graduate from high school, study and lead a self-determined life. And he succeeds: he conceals his health impairment and gets an apprenticeship in the catering industry. Against all expectations, he overcomes the challenges with the help of a few well-meaning and knowledgeable colleagues and survives in the world of the sighted for 15 years. Fingertips, ears and intuition replace his eyes. But one day he has to admit that his world consists almost entirely of shadows. But Saliya does not give up.
