Merlin feat. Ginevra

Tankred Dorst's visually stunning "world fairy tale" Merlin or The Waste Land tells the medieval story of King Arthur and his Round Table as an opulent parable about humanity. It is a tragedy about the dream of a better world, the search for a life full of happiness, love and peace - and its inevitable failure. "The idealists, the seekers of the Grail, the founders of round tables and ideal states, of new orders and systems, who promise salvation with their theories and want to bring great happiness to mankind," Tankred Dorst, who is critical of ideology, is quoted as saying, "in the end they lead entire nations straight to hell!"

While Tankred Dorst's Merlin or The Waste Land mostly follows King Arthur and his knights, the wizard Merlin or the wandering Parzival, Merlin feat. Ginevra follows the tracks of a minor character in Dorst's epic texts. It places Ginevra, King Arthur's wife, at the center and uses imaginative attributions to create the fictional biography of a woman as she never was, but could be today or perhaps should be in the future.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the theater, the drama department would like to emphasize the community aspect of the two-town theater. In Krefeld, drama director Christoph Roos will stage Merlin or The Waste Land on the main stage, while in Mönchengladbach the young director Luis Liun Koch will develop his interpretation of the play in the theater's studio under the title Merlin feat.The premieres and all performances will take place on the same evening and include scenic elements that will be broadcast live via image and sound transmission into the other city's production.
