A highlight is the relief-decorated stone box from the MARKK collection, which will be presented in the vaulted hall. The lidded box (ca. 1502 - 1520) made of gray-green stone is one of the most famous examples of Aztec stone carving. The containers, known as tepetlacalli in Nahuatl, were probably used to store offerings, ritual implements or the ashes of deceased rulers. See also the lecture on Sun. 3.11. from 3.30 pm in the large lecture hall of the MARKK.
