Día de los Muertos at MARKK!
The Mexican Day of the Dead has been taking place at MARKK for 30 years in cooperation with the Círculo Mexicano Alemán e.V. (CIMA e.V.). We are celebrating our anniversary together! On the Day of the Dead, or "Día de los Muertos" in Spanish, the deceased are remembered and life and death are celebrated in Mexico every year at the beginning of November. A varied program for children, young people and adults invites you to MARKK for dance and music performances, readings and lectures, performances for children and young people, face painting, craft workshops, Mexican delicacies, guided tours and stores with Mexican handicrafts and arts and crafts, as well as the opportunity to exchange ideas in the Death Café and explanations at the Altar of the Dead.

From 11:00 a.m.: Market stalls in the vaulted hall and in the restaurant
From 11:00 a.m.: Digital art installation by artist Diana Ilithya, small lecture hall, several short explanations between 11.30-19.11:15 a.m.: Film screening "La leyenda de la Nahuala" (The Legend of La Nahuala, in Spanish with English subtitles), large lecture hall
From 12:00: Death Café - presentation review of the 30th anniversary of the Day of the Dead at MARKK and presentation of tepetlacalli (in Spanish), Zwischenraum
13:00-13:45: Lecture by Christine Chávez (MARKK curator of the Americas department) on the MARKK's Mexican collection, large auditorium
13:15: Explanations at the altar, foyer
13:30-15:30: Activities for children (face painting (with registration list on site, please allow for waiting time), making masks, making skulls out of chocolate and with papier-mâché), in the golden tower and in the intermediate room
13:30-14:30: Guided tour for families with Santiago Gonzales on the subject of death, meeting point: foyer
14:00-14:30: Official opening by cima e.V. and the museum management, large auditorium
14:30-15:15: Dance performance Sol Mexicano, large lecture hall

16:00-16:30: Lecture by Claudia Chávez de Lederbogen "El día de muertos y la Catrina", large lecture hall
17:00-18:00: Parade Catrinas (meeting point for interested participants, intermediate room), end in the large lecture hall
Note: All participants should come to the museum already as Catrina or Catrin (skeleton lady or skeleton gentleman).
