Michel Schroeder Ensemble SONGS FOR THE SEA

The Michel Schroeder Ensemble, an innovative crossover ensemble from Hamburg, inspires with a fascinating fusion of jazz and classical music. With a line-up of six wind instruments, a string quartet, harp, vocals and a dynamic rhythm section, the ensemble creates a sonic experience that creatively transcends the boundaries of the two genres.

Founded and led by visionary bandleader Michel Schroeder, the ensemble has already released two impressive albums. The debut album "BUNT" was released in 2021 and showcased the ensemble's artistic diversity and unique compositions. This was followed in 2024 by the second album entitled "IN MY LIFE", which is dedicated to Schroeder's family and friends, deals with his own role as a father and reflects the further development of the ensemble.

All of the Michel Schroeder Ensemble's compositions were penned by the bandleader himself, who knows how to harmoniously unite the various musical influences and create an unmistakable sound. The combination of improvisational elements of jazz and the structured elegance of classical music captivates listeners and invites them to experience music in a new way.

The new program SONGS OF THE SEA includes compositions dedicated to Schroeder's homeland. Growing up in Lübeck and Kiel, his fascination for the sea and especially the Baltic Sea is part of his identity. To this end, he wrote a 60-minute suite that portrays all aspects of the sea and Schleswig-Holstein: Rape fields in bloom, the smell of seaweed, mussels and jellyfish and the very special kind of wind that only exists on the Baltic Sea.
