Michelangelo 550! Bilder des ‚Göttlichen‘ in der Druckgraphik

In the organizer's words:

In the year of Michelangelo Buonarroti's (1475-1564) 550th birthday, "Michelangelo 550!" concludes a trilogy of events that the Central Institute for Art History has dedicated to the three founders of the High Renaissance in Italy (previously Leonardo da Vinci 500, 2019, and Raphael 500, 2020). Accompanying a colloquium that presented current research on Michelangelo, this exhibition presents the long engagement with the "divine artist" and his works using the example of selected prints and publications. The varying (post-)fame of Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo and their works not only reflect the changes in art, taste and interests since the 16th century in exemplary fashion. National differences and emphases in the examination of these 'super-figures' of art also become clear.

In ten sections, the exhibition traces how ideas about Michelangelo and his works - from painting and sculpture to architecture and graphic art - have changed over five centuries.

You can find more information about the exhibition here.

The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday 10:00-20:00; it is closed at weekends and on public holidays.
Admission is free of charge.
