THE PROGRAM
EIGHT TEXTS - EIGHT FACES - ALL FORMS
This time, the grandiose texts of the evening are by:
THOMAS EMPL, born in Munich, lives as a writer in Cologne. His short story collections "Ausbruch" (2021) and "Inneres Zittern" (2023) were published by parasitenpresse. Thomas was a co-founder of KURZE and a Dieter Wellershoff scholarship holder in 2023, is a member of the "Hypertext" collective and a part-time bookseller at Bücherwelt Ehrenfeld (Venloer Straße). Also, not to be forgotten: With a high score of 580,607, Thomas is currently the twelfth best Tetris player in the world (Game Boy version). Photo: Charlotte Wulff.
JENNIFER SEGEBRECHT lives in Cologne. After her studies and longer stays in London and San Francisco, she now works as a business psychologist. She was a scholarship holder of the "1:1" mentoring program for NRW writers and won the audience award at the Cologne Promotion Prize for Young Literature 2024. Jennifer writes on Instagram, on her first novel and publishes in magazines, e.g. in the Literarische Blätter or DAS GRAMM.
NATALIE HARAPAT is an author and artist. In her work, which has appeared in various literary magazines, she deals primarily with feminist themes. In 2024 she was a fellow at the Schöppingen artists' village, and in June her third book "Übertrieb" was published by parasitenpresse. The short story collection brings together 14 stories on topics such as encounters, bodies, power & violence and follows the questions "How do we treat each other? How do we talk to each other? How hurtful and unfair can that be?" Photo: Camilo Pachon, artists' village Schöppingen.
SAMY CHALLAH works as a cartoonist for Titanic and as an actor, currently for example on "Rembetis - Die Geisterjäger" for ZDFneo. Samy studied at the Academy of Media Arts and writes short stories. He has already been heard as a winner of the Cologne Promotion Prize 2020 or at the SHORT STORY NIGHT of Land in Sicht. People say that Samy is "the sawed-off shotgun among all the drawing desperados", and about his texts: "Madness belongs to Samy's stories like mushrooms to the foot. Otherwise it doesn't taste good." Enjoy your meal!
JONAS MIETH studied Educational Science & Special Education and is currently doing his traineeship. Since 2020, he has been part of the Literaturwerkstatt Darmstadt and the "sexyunderground" collective at the Literaturhaus Frankfurt. In addition to scenic texts, Jonas also writes prose and poetry, e.g. in absolutzine. "I write when I feel a lot," says Jonas, "or when I feel little. I write to sort out what's shaking around unsorted."
EVA MAJBOUR lives in Cologne and works as an educational consultant and art mediator. Eva had the desire to write from an early age, but her first attempts at writing - prose & poetry - only took place during her (German and linguistics) studies. In her texts, Eva deals with difficult feelings and the resulting helplessness and hopelessness - to give them space, but also to renegotiate them. Her texts have appeared in Literarische Blätter and flusslaut, for example.
FLORIAN FELIX can often be found with his texts at poetry slams, but for us he reads poetry: short poems, "partial snippets", partially published, e.g. in the Literarische Blätter. In them, Florian is interested in contradictions and ambiguities, deals abstractly with themes such as freedom and nature, but also more concretely with neurodivergent traumas, with found families and - as he says - with "perhaps a bit of positive nihilism!".
BEN EIGL first discovered acting for himself: as part of the CreArtivo ensemble, he regularly takes part in performances. Ben then came to writing via the Cologne writing workshop. In his texts, he deals with topics such as isolation, toxic communication, devastation and new beginnings, sometimes darkly, sometimes humorously. When Ben is not writing, he paints ("abstract, or spherical shapes"), plays the drums or calculates the gravitational pull of random planets.
