Philipp and Tobi grow up in provincial East Germany. Their childhood is characterized by the disintegration of their own family and the lack of prospects
of an entire region. Years later, when a refugee home is to be built in the village, the situation escalates. While one brother withdraws, the other finds
the other finds an outlet for his anger...

Director Constanze Klaue's powerful feature film debut tells a touching family drama in the East German provinces from the perspective of two brothers. A great ensemble shows how the upheavals of the post-reunification period reverberate in all their harshness for the young protagonists as well as for their parents' generation. It takes the audience on a journey into a time characterized by political tensions that nevertheless feels intensely present and burningly topical. Constanze Klaue sensitively finds a language from within her characters for the anger and alienation of those for whom the great promises of the future did not reach. She meets her characters at eye level and draws an unembellished and detailed generational portrait in an environment characterized by a lack of prospects and radicalization, which is representative of many places in the world.

The bestseller of the same name by Görlitz author Lukas Rietzschel, on which the film is loosely based, was celebrated by Der Spiegel as the "book of the hour" on the so-called refugee crisis.
