MITLUFER
A research project by Noam Brusilovsky

Shortly after director Oskar Walleck was appointed general director of the Bavarian State Theaters by "Reich Minister for Popular Enlightenment and Propaganda" Joseph Goebbels in 1934, he announced his cultural-political vision to the Munich audience: "Work on a theater of the Third Reich with the goal of implementing National Socialist cultural will." After the end of the Nazi dictatorship, the former "SS-Standartenführer" Walleck claims all at once before the Spruchkammergericht that he had "actively resisted the National Socialist tyranny" as part of his artistic directorship.

"Mitläufer" is a historical examination of the contradictory biographies of those who were able to reach the top of the theater thanks to close contacts with the NSDAP. With this research project, the Residenztheater, as one of the oldest German theaters, is investigating a dark chapter in its own history.

Noam Brusilovsky is a German-Israeli theater and radio playwright. In 2017 and 2021 he received the German Radio Play Award. In 2022, he was awarded the Nestroy Jury's "Special Prize" for the theater project "Nicht sehen" (Don't See), which he developed, and the Radio Play Prize of the War Blind for "Die Arbeit an der Rolle." With his research project "Mitläufer" he presents himself for the first time to the audience of the Residenztheater.
